Wow! Female Marines - talk about girl power! It’s awesome to see women breaking barriers and making history. From the first female Marine in 1918 to today, these ladies have been kicking butt and taking names. They’ve come a long way, baby! And they’re not done yet - these brave women are still blazing trails and showing the world what they can do. So here’s to all the female Marines out there - you go, girls!
What Were Female Marines Called? [Solved]
Back in WWII, they called women Reservists “WRs,” but after the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act passed in ‘48, they started calling them “Women Marines” or just “WMs.” Fast-forward to the mid-70s and people wanted to get rid of any sign of a separate organization for women.
Women in the Marine Corps: The Marine Corps began allowing women to enlist in 1918, and since then, female Marines have served with distinction in every major conflict.
Combat Roles: In 2016, the Marine Corps opened all combat roles to women for the first time, allowing them to serve alongside their male counterparts on the front lines of battle.
Leadership Opportunities: Female Marines are now able to take on leadership roles within the organization, including commanding officers and senior enlisted personnel positions.
Recruiting Efforts: The Marine Corps has made a concerted effort to recruit more female Marines by targeting high school students and college graduates through outreach programs and advertising campaigns.
