It’s hard to believe it’s been over 20 years since the Gorillaz first hit the scene! From their humble beginnings as a virtual band, they’ve come a long way and have become one of the most influential groups in music. So, what was the start of this amazing journey? Well, it all began with their self-titled debut album in 2001. It was an instant hit and marked the beginning of a new era for alternative music. Who would have thought that this would be just the start of something so big? Amazingly enough, it was!

Usually, Gorillaz had been taking their time between each phase to come up with new art, lore and music. But then, out of nowhere in mid-2017, signs of Phase 5 started appearing; like Jamie Hewlett’s new art and Damon Albarn performing some new songs during the Humanz Tour (Idaho & Hollywood). It turns out the album was written while they were on tour in the US. Crazy!
Formation: Gorillaz was formed in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, two British musicians. The band is a virtual band consisting of four animated members: 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs.
